Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg
Keeping the Scene in Suspense with Innovations
We Mobilize the Provocateur
With its innovative courses of study, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater was long considered a provocateur among German music academies. In 2019, the HfMT was able to win the nationwide “Innovative Hochschule” funding competition with its project application “Stage_2.0” and equip the forum with state-of-the-art technical equipment. Amptown System Company was responsible for the realization of a mobile video wall including trusses and mechanical construction in the course of this reequipment at the HfMT. The university’s wish list included professional LED panels for the simple and quick construction of large-format and high-resolution video screens in various sizes and versions. ASC was able to meet this requirement with panels with 2.6 mm pixel pitch, 1,500 nits maximum brightness, and brilliant image reproduction. The ultralight panels with a size of 500 × 500 × 80 mm weigh only about 5.5 kg and can be easily implemented in stacked or flown configurations thanks to integrated magnets. The flexible panels can also be installed concave or convex and offer the university a variety of creative possibilities to support the artistic performances of students and partners from, for example, Shanghai or San Francisco, with visual means. A total of 250 LED panels were purchased for variable use in the Forum and other venues of the HfMT. The largest screen that can be realized is 60 square meters in size. The razor-sharp video projections of the mobile video screens complete the annual 400 events of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater. This equipment with innovative technologies makes the Forum one of the most attractive concert and theater halls in Hamburg from a technical point of view and offers completely new working possibilities for all sections of this institution. The Forum is now an acoustically virtual space with numerous new performance possibilities that can provide important experiences for the artistic careers of the students.
