The Konzerthaus Freiburg congress center is a performance and event venue located in downtown Freiburg, one of the cities with the highest quality of life in the country. Ever since its opening in 1996, a total of more than 6,000 events have been held here. State-of-the-art technology leaves plenty of room for creative ideas – and different lighting concepts provide an appealing setting for every type of event. The building’s lighting has been gradually converted to modern LED technology in several renovation phases since 2019. Amptown System Company was commissioned to install a total of almost 450 lighting units for the project.
The hall and foyer lighting in the building was renewed from May to September 2020. Defective housings of the old lamps called for modernization of the hall lighting. The new lamps were to fit into the existing ceiling cutouts and had to be continuously dimmable to 0% as well as flicker-free. The briefing also called for additional illumination of the concert hall’s side areas. ASC developed a custom solution that combined six compact and robust LED spotlights with high light quality in a linear arrangement comprising a metal frame that was precisely fitted into the given segments. To control the total of 312 lighting units in the auditorium, seven drivers act as a central controller in a 19″ rack. Designed specifically for auditoriums, the drivers provide powerful and consistent power as well as dimming control with continuous dimming from 100% to absolute zero – and back to full.
Energy-efficient and separate LED fixtures were chosen for the new design of the foyer lighting. The 130 high-performance recessed downlights can be dimmed down to 0% and are, of course, absolutely flicker-free when in operation. The ASC lighting specialists also made sure to adapt the lights to existing lamps and effortlessly implemented the existing cabling. All in all, a successful lighting project in a magnificent venue.
